Hagoromo Otsutsuki, often referred to as the Sage of Six Paths, is a pivotal figure in the Naruto universe. He is revered as the progenitor of ninshu, the predecessor to ninjutsu, and credited with establishing the ninja world as it is known.

Born to Kaguya Otsutsuki, alongside his twin brother Hamura, Hagoromo inherited a fraction of his mother's immense chakra. Unlike his mother, who sought absolute power and control, Hagoromo believed in using chakra to connect people and promote peace.

He defeated and sealed away the Ten-Tails, a monstrous being that was the combined form of the Divine Tree and Kaguya. To prevent the Ten-Tails from resurfacing, Hagoromo split its chakra into nine distinct entities, creating the Tailed Beasts.

Hagoromo chose his younger son, Asura, to inherit his will and carry on his vision of peace through cooperation, rather than his elder son, Indra, who favored power and individual strength. This decision sparked a conflict that would continue through their descendants for generations.

In his later years, Hagoromo ascended to a spiritual form, capable of intervening in the mortal realm to guide individuals towards the path of peace and balance. He plays a crucial role in guiding Naruto and Sasuke towards their final confrontation with Kaguya.
